Did you ever think that you would be joining a ‘virtual’ fitness class? Neither did we! While it can’t replace your local gym or your favorite fitness group, virtual classes allow you to stay active at home, whether it’s during COVID-19 or as a substitute in your future gym routine.

Joining a class using Zoom is easier than you think. Follow the tips in this article to help you get started and you’ll be able to use this skill over and over again!  

You can participate in Zoom-hosted workouts using your computer or by using an app on your phone.

To Join Using Your Computer (Recommended)

Step 1: Give yourself plenty of time to join the class to ensure everything is set up properly so you can successfully join on time. 

Step 2: Look for an email that was sent to you from the instructor of the class - you will have already received this email about 1-2 hours before the class start time. This email will include the link for the class you registered for.

*Helpful Tip: Take the time to position the computer or phone where you can comfortably see it, the camera is focused on you, and you still have room to work out.

Step 3: 5-10 minutes before the scheduled class time, click on the link in the email to open the class through the Zoom website.

IMPORTANT: These are LIVE classes. If you register for a 12:00pm class, please plan to attend at that time. The class will not be recorded

TIMEZONE: Be sure to check the timezone of each class you reserve. If the class is listed from a facility in a different timezone, please account for this difference in your start time.

Step 4: Click the blue text that reads “join from your browser” located in the center of the screen as shown below: 

NOT WORKING? You can also use your web browser to navigate to https://zoom.us/join and enter the Meeting ID and Password, exactly how it was provided in the instructor’s email (it’s case sensitive). 

To Join Using Your Phone

Step 1: The Zoom app is available for free from the Apple App Store or Google Play for Android. If you haven’t already downloaded the Zoom app, it’s not necessary. We recommend joining via the web for a quicker experience. 

Step 2: Look for an email that was sent to you from the instructor of the class - you will have already received this email about 1-2 hours before the class start time. This email will include the link for the class you registered for.

Step 3: 5-10 minutes before the scheduled class time, click on the link in the email to open the class through the Zoom website.

Get The Most Out Of Your Experience 

By joining a virtual class, you can get many of the benefits of the gym or class from the comfort of your own home. You can be as social and interactive as you would like by taking the time to adjust these features: 

  • Join With Computer Audio: this allows you to talk to the instructor or to other class participants if you have any questions.
  • Start Video: by clicking this option, you are allowing yourself to be seen on camera (as long as your computer has a camera - it may be built-in). Turning your video on allows the instructor to see what you are doing, make corrections, and offer motivation. It will also make you feel like you are in the studio with other participants and the instructor!
